Imagine Motherwell – A Strategy for our Town Centre and Environs
MCF first called on the Council to consider creating a Strategy for our Town Centre and environs back in early 2008. This Strategy would tie in future development in and around the town into an over arching framework intended to see our Town Centre reinvented and made fit for the 21st Century.
The Council has completed its deliberations and after almost two years doing so has decided that it is a good idea for it to look again at its Strategy for the Town Centre’s across the county.
The economic environment has change beyond all recognition over the past three years. Re-inventing our Town Centre and environs in what is now being referred to as “the good times” was a big ask then, the task is of herculean proportions now in these austere times brought about by the near collapse in the financial sector in recent years.
The determination of the Forum to see our Town Centre regenerated is undiminished by the downturn in the economy. We retain our eagerness to work with NLC Planning to encourage the wider community to get involved in the process that will eventually lead to creation of the final Strategy document that will be submitted for consideration, comment and agreement of the Council. To this end we have arranged to meet with Council Officers early in the New Year to work out how the Forum can best help encourage the wider community to get involved in the process. We will keep you posted on developments.
